This year all students will be involved in our Science Program again. We have lots of fun and engaging new activities for everyone. In Term 1 all students will be learning about Physical Sciences.
In Prep to Grade 2 students will be learning about our 5 Senses, Light and Sound. They will get to explore the school using their senses, find ways to make different sounds using musical instruments and explore light and colour through making a kaleidoscope.
Grade 3 and 4 students will be learning about Heat. They will learn about how heat is created and take part in a number of experiments involving measuring temperatures using a thermometer and melting matter.
Grade 5 and 6 students will learn all about Light in Term 1. They will experiment with mixing and splitting colours as well as refraction, reflection and absorption of light. They will use prisms, mirrors and light beams to complete these experiments.
This year Grade 4 to 6 students will be the first to take part in our new STEM Specialist program.
STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics brings multiple subject areas together to enable students to learn how to use new technologies and solve real world problems.
In Term 1 students will be learning about coding and will use the Chromebooks, iPads and robots to create and complete programming exercises.
Our STEM Club will be running again on Wednesday and Thursdays this year at 2:10 in the STEM room.
STEM club is an opportunity for students to practise their coding skills and get to know robots at the school including Cozmo, Sphero and Blue bots. They also get to make their own creations using the Lego We Do 2.0.
STEM Club is always very popular. The students really enjoy experimenting with technology.
