The Grade 1/2 students participate in maths flexible groupings. Here the students can practise skills that they need to improve on. The students mix between classes and work together to gain more knowledge in the area of place value. The students have been enjoying the tuning in games and hand on materials to assist them in their learning. They especially like using the Chromebooks to assist them becoming more fluent with particular skills.
This Group are learning about the hundreds, tens and ones place. Lots of discussion has taken place about the value of the digits. They have represented numbers in many different ways, using the abacus, MAB blocks and different Chromebook games. We are exploring with expanding the numbers and adding each place together. Once we are fluent with this, we will use this knowledge to add and subtract larger numbers together.
