On the weekend I went to Big W with my mum. At the cash register I noticed that the lady standing there had a sign saying ‘Hi my name is Lisa-I’m hearing impaired, please speak slowly so I can lip read’ so I decided to be brave and try and use the Auslan I had learned to communicated with her and she loved it. I made her smile, and it made me feel really proud of myself. We talked about the colours of the shoes we were buying, and we both said hello and thank you in Auslan. If you see someone that is deaf, you should try your Auslan with them, as it will make them so happy.
